Robert Emmons on NPR

November 23, 2010

An interview with Dr. Robert Emmons, author of Words of Gratitude, and Dr. Dan Gottlieb aired earlier today on NPR’s Voices in the Family.

We are thankful for “the bounty” this week…turkey and trimmings, divinely presented…and the joy of sharing each bite with family and friends. During Thanksgiving and the ensuing holiday season, it’s common to share our thoughts about what we’re grateful for. But what about the rest of the year? What’s to stop us from counting our blessing everyday? On Voices in the Family, Dan Gottlieb talks to Dr. Robert Emmons. He says being grateful more often can have a positive impact on our mental health and individual happiness. It can also be good for the communities we live in. Dr. Emmons is a professor at University of California, Davis. His primary interests are in the psychology of gratitude and the psychology of personal goals. He’s the author of “The Psychology of Gratitude.” The show’s a rebroadcast and originally aired in November 2009.
